With momentum gathering behind network function virtualisation (NFV), CSPs are also keen to ensure that associated solutions in their operational, test and R&D environments follow pace. The new, virtualised Solver delivers on this vision and will help CSPs meet CAPEX goals while leveraging a common IT infrastructure.

Solver is a high-performance load generation, stress and feature testing solution for LTE and VoLTE services, as well as legacy and NGN fixed and mobile networks. Solver can be deployed both as a virtual and a physical device, making it possible to operate in existing IT infrastructures, side by side with NFV deployments of the mobile core network. This means that CSPs can maximise their return on existing and new infrastructure investments, and simplify maintenance.

The virtualised Solver is delivered as software, dramatically reducing delivery times to CSPs. This also allows remote installation to be facilitated for system extension. Stockholm, Sweden, 6 September 2017 – Polystar, a leading supplier of Network and Customer Analytics, Network Monitoring, and Service Enablement solutions to the telecoms industry, today announced that ODIN, a complete, turnkey IMS solution for enabling VoWiFi and VoLTE services, has been selected by Ålcom, which provides converged mobile, broadband IPTV and ICT services in the Åland Islands, an autonomous region of Finland, to provide enhanced indoor voice coverage for its mobile subscribers.

New requirements for energy efficiency for commercial, public and private buildings led to problems in the delivery of consistent in-building mobile voice coverage from the cellular network. ODIN, which offers a complete VoWiFi solution compatible with legacy mobile networks, provided the solution to this by allowing Ålcom to deliver a universal voice service using in-building Wi-Fi as well as conventional mobile access.

Odin is compliant with GSMA standards IR.51, 58, 92 and IR.94 and provides a secure, seamless solution to enable VoWiFi service activation and rollout, as well as automatic user registration. Wi-Fi connectivity neatly circumvents the problem of achieving indoor coverage from the wide-area cellular network while overcoming the obstacles created by techniques adopted to meet more efficient, energy-saving building regulations.

Our subscribers prefer to use their mobiles as their default communication device, but it was increasingly difficult to guarantee coverage in new developments, because of stringent new regulations that promote lower energy consumption”, said Daniel Dahlén CEO of Ålcom. “While everyone wants enhanced energy efficiency, this posed problems for the provision of a secure, consistent wireless experience. Stockholm, Sweden, 22 March 2018 – Polystar T&M, a leading supplier of Test and Measurement solutions for the telecom industry today announced that its virtualised vSolver solution has been chosen by a European Tier 1 operator to support rollout of VoLTE, NB-IoT and other services, across six regional markets.

The new contract covers the implementation of the NFV-based vSolver in the virtualised core of each of the networks. The virtual, cloud-based architecture supported by the operator allows rapid network and service deployment, backed by elastic scale. To support this elasticity and operational flexibility, the operator needs a similarly scalable test solution.

The vSolver solution will be deployed as a VNF (Virtual Network Function) in the NFV infrastructure and carry out functional validation as well as performance and stability regression testing. vSolver includes support for a wide range of services, including VoLTE, VoWiFi, and NB-IoT, as well as close integration with the EPC and legacy networks, such as UMTS and SS7.

New virtual networking and service chaining on the NFV infrastructure needs to be tested in ways that allow the operators to maximise the benefits of the fast-paced and dynamic virtual environment. vSolver enables the operator to achieve this, through the simulation of multiple millions of different devices, allowing validation of both the Core Network and service-specific Application Servers. In addition, vSolver supports voice, mobile data and IoT service testing from a single platform, allowing the operator to obtain and assess measurable insights on crucial KPIs before new services are launched, network elements added, or software updates released to the live network.
